Αγριόχοιρος

The Wild boar is 110-180cm in length and weighs 100-200kg. Its body is compact and it has a long head tapering into a snout. The upper and middle part of the nose droop a little and this drooping increases with age. The ears are large and always upright and the legs short and strong. The tail is of medium length, always straight and there is a tuft of long hairs at the tip. It has a thick, bristly coat which is greyish black in winter and grey in summer. The canine teeth are characteristic and protrude upwards from the lower jaw. Animals aged 2-3 months have characteristic light-coloured long stripes and hunting them is forbidden. The wild boar can be found all over mainland Greece, in the Peloponese, Samos and Lesbos.
