Σαρσέλα

(Common names: Martini, Avgousteli, Crineli, Carcareli, Calamaki)

The Garganey, at 38cm in length, is a small wild duck, a little larger than the Common Teal. The thin white crescent over the eye distinguishes the drake, whilst the hen has a white chin. The bluish hue on the upper side of the wings is characteristic of both the male and female: “Shiny” green. The Garganey is a migratory species, going to and from Africa, and few pairs nest in Greece any more.
