(Common names: Waterbird, Green Foot)

The Moorhen is 33cm long. It is a dark coloured water bird with a red facial shield, white line on its flank, an upright tail and strange legs. The young are grey and brown and easily confused with the young Coot, but they can be distinguished by the white line on the flank and whiter tail.
