The Northern Lapwing is 30cm in length and difficult to confuse with other species. It is a characteristic metallic green colour with a head tuft and side wings. It is an indigenous species but found in greater numbers in winter. It is often found in flocks, especially during harsh winters in open lowland, often far from wetlands.
