The collection of information in the ARTEMIS I programme is based on the collection of organic material which game keepers, belonging to Hunting Associations, assemble when inspecting hunters in the countryside. On completion of one of these inspections, the game keepers ask the hunters whether they have any objection to their removing a part of the game they have culled (wings, legs).

Then, using a strict protocol, they preserve the collected biological specimens and send them directly to a scientific team at ARTEMIS. The scientists at the Artemis programme use a special dehydration process on the biological material and can determine the gender and age of the game species.

The programme is carried out all over Greece and the proportion of adults to young specimens which results from the results, as well as the proportion of males or females per species, allows them to draw conclusions as to the health of the population in the country.
