(Common names: Baliza, Folega, Blackhen, Loufa, Caracoutsi)
The Eurasian Coot is 38cm in length. A short fat, dark grayish-black bird with a white facial shield and bill, it has characteristically strange feet. The young are a lighter coloured grey-brown colour without the white facial shield. The Coot lands by running on water. It is indigenous in Greece but more populous in the winter.
